Missouri Corn – crop insurance “absolutely critical” this year

The CEO of the Missouri Corn Growers Association says the drought will definitely reduce the state’s corn yields this year, “It’s kind of up in the air right now. The good areas are good but the bad areas are really bad.”

Gary Marshall says there ARE places where the crop is healthy, “In the areas where we have really good corn growth, which would be northwest Missouri, southeast Missouri, along the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers, that corn looks to be pretty good.”

But, he says, it’s devasting everywhere else and crop insurance will likely be the only saving grace, “It’s absolutely critical this year. It’s going to be the only thing that’s going to save some growers.” Only about 30% of Missouri’s corn crop is rated good to excellent.
