Missouri farmer starts but expects late harvest

A southwest Missouri farmer started harvesting corn last week, “The middle of last week we kind of got going. But, with all the rains this spring planting was such a hit or miss. So, we’re going to have harvest extending out into the fall quite a ways.

Kyle Kirby (who farmers in Barton County) tells Brownfield he expects an above average corn crop, but, “You never know. As we’ve been talking in the community here we’re all afraid of those areas that got drowned out and they don’t exactly look that way from the highway.”

Some of his early, irrigated soybeans have started turning color. His double-crop beans didn’t get finished planting until well into July.

Still, Kirby expects an overall good soybean crop.
