Missouri Farmers Care will maintain HSUS opposition

The coalition known as Missouri Farmers Care will continue to oppose the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). That’s according to coalition president Don Nikodim, who says he’s pleased the group has backed away from its ‘Your Vote Counts’ initiated petition drive, but he says the coalition will continue to let people know what HSUS is about.

“Their ultimate goal was for people not to use animals or consume meat,” Nikodim told Brownfield Ag News Monday. “And I guess when you stop and think that for us in agriculture, that’s the crux of our business, whether you’re growing corn or soybeans to feed livestock or you’re growing cattle or pigs or chickens or what have you, meat consumption is extremely important.”

Just because the battle has changed doesn’t mean that the fight has gone away, said Nikodim.

“This radical animal rights group has been very public, their leadership has, that they want to end livestock production,” said Nikodim, “they also want to end hunting and any other use of animals, so I think we have to really stay focused and try to make sure people understand this group, really what they’re about.”

Nikodim says Missouri Farmers Care will continue to make people aware of the importance of agriculture and that, according to Nikodim, the Humane Society of the United States is bent on doing away with animal agriculture.

  • Wayne Pacellle wants everyone to be a vegetarian!!! I would strongly agree with this statement.. Wayne Pacelle should not be coming into our cities and forcing us to vote for your vote counts….

  • Very smart. HSUS has an agenda and it isn’t going away just because they stopped their recent efforts.
Missouri Farmers Care needs to maintain their organization and their unity against the animal rights agenda. While the HSUS pretends to be about animal welfare, they are really about eliminating animal agriculture. We in other parts of the country are very glad to see that Missouri folks are maintaining a strong stand against animal rights foolishness.
