More dairy in cold storage

There’s more cheese but less butter in cold storage.

USDA’s new report shows natural cheese stocks in refrigerated warehouses as of the end of the year were up slightly from the end of November, but down from a year ago.  Total natural cheese in storage on December 31st was 1.442 billion pounds compared to 1.436 billion pounds the previous month and 1.445 billion pounds in December of 2022.

Butter stocks fell 6% from November and 8% a year ago.  As of December 31st, 199.5 million pounds of butter were in storage, compared to 212.6 million pounds on November 30th and 216.2 million pounds in December of 2022.
