Nemasphere: Putting Nematode Resistance to Work in the Field

Standing beside a soybean plot at the 2026 Farm Progress Show, Brownfield got a firsthand look at technology designed to tackle one of the challenges farmers often can’t see until it’s already causing damage – nematodes. BASF’s Nemasphere™ nematode resistance trait is designed to help protect soybeans from yield-robbing nematodes, and the live test plots offered a chance to see the technology in action. It’s a good reminder that some of the most important advances in agriculture are happening below the soil surface, where genetics can play an important role in helping crops withstand pests and protect yield potential.
Brownfield talked with Mike McCarville, trait development manager and trait technology lead with BASF Agricultural Solutions, who leads the development of Nemasphere.
