USB director: livestock consumption remains key to soybean demand

A United Soybean Board director sees livestock consumption as a cornerstone of soybean demand.

“Particularly with the hog industry looking at how soybeans can not only help with rate of gain, but can also help with some of the health issues they deal with particularly in the summertime when there’s summer stress and so on. That including more soy in their diet seems to help them give them more of a resiliency through that time.”

Speaking to Brownfield at the Farm Progress Show in central Iowa this week, she said about 97 percent of the U.S. soybean crop goes into pork and poultry feed.

“So we work really closely with the U.S. Meat Export Federation and USA Poultry and Egg Export Council as well, I think building these partnerships really gives us an opportunity to build that demand.”

Isley says soy, pork, and poultry exports all benefit the soybean producer.
