The 82nd Annual Missouri FFA State Convention ended Friday night in Columbia this weekend. The new state officer team has been selected. Austin Steele, the newly elected 1st Vice President, from Miller, Mo. says that he is looking forward to the upcoming year with his new teammates.

“I expect to encounter a lot of traveling,” said Steele. “We go all over the state and talk to different chapters and do different deals throughout the summer; FFA Camp, Public Speaking Academy, things like that. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

The officer team consists of 17 FFA members from across the state with one student representing each area the FFA is divided into.

Steele says that the officer team plans to get more students involved in the FFA and help students prepare for their futures in agriculture.

“Some of our goals will probably be to just encourage freshmen and motivate them to be involved like I was,” said Steele. As a freshman I really didn’t know if I wanted to be in or even if I wanted to do anything at all. To encourage them and to be involved the most they can,” said Steele. “Ninety-eight percent of jobs in America are involved in agriculture or some form of agriculture. So it is extremely important to be involved in it so you can help better educate the public and help them understand.”

The new Missouri officer team will travel around the state for the next year promoting agriculture and the FFA to the more than 24,000 high school students currently involved in the Missouri FFA Association.
