Northern Minnesota farmers seeing more favorable weather than southern counterparts

A Minnesota farmer near the Canadian border has been surprised by the weather in his part of the state.

Shayne Isane in Roseau County says northern Minnesota is forecast to receive rain this weekend, while southern Minnesota could see several inches of snow.

“You guys (in southern Minnesota) have actually been getting worse weather than we have with these snow storms that have come through, which is a bit unusual. But it doesn’t sound like huge (rain) amounts up here. We’re definitely going to cool off a little bit, which could delay things.”

He tells Brownfield along the U.S.-Canada border there’s usually a 50/50 chance of beginning fieldwork in April.

“We’d like to get these small grains in in April, but it’s the way Mother Nature works sometimes. And we’ve come out fine by just getting in around the early part of May too.”

Isane grows spring wheat, oats, corn, soybeans, alfalfa and rye grass and operates a cow/calf operation with his brother.
