NPPC says farmers can’t take any more hits from tariffs
The National Pork Producers Council says farmers can’t afford to take another hit from retaliatory tariffs that would likely come if President Trump imposes tariffs on auto imports.
Jim Monroe with NPPC says the pork industry is already facing tariffs from China and Mexico on 40 percent of the nation’s exports.
“Auto tariffs on certain countries would be a significant escalation of the trade disputes that are already in play,” he says. “It’s just something we can’t afford in the pork sector.”
He tells Brownfield tariffs on auto imports could impact the pork industry’s top five export markets.
Monroe says the NPPC remains opposed to existing tariffs and any new tariffs.
