Ohio farmer makes planting progress

Southern Ohio Farmer Greg Corcoran says he has been able to make planting progress on sandy soils.

“I’d say we’re probably about 60 percent planted corn and about 50 percent on soybeans,” he says. “With our conditions and our drier ground, we’ve gotten a lot of our bigger sandy bottom fields done.”

But, Corcoran says he might have to consider prevented planting for some of his acres.

“If we don’t get into them in the next week, we will not be able to successfully plant that corn crop,” he says. “We are looking at that as the date looms ahead.”

Although the deadline is approaching, he says he’s hopeful he can finish planting soon.

“We’re looking for another stretch of weather so that we can get close to wrapping up a majority of our acres,” he says.

Corcoran grows corn, soybeans, wheat, and popcorn in Ross, Pike, and Scioto counties.
