Ohio senator says budget would slash GLRI funding

Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown says President Trump’s budget makes unacceptable cuts to the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. The budget proposes a 90 percent cut – $270 million – to the program.

He says the GLRI has jump-started efforts to protect and maintain Great Lakes like Lake Erie.

Brown says Ohioans rely on Lake Erie for jobs, clean drinking water, and a place to enjoy with their families, and the budget eliminates economic development efforts instead of investing in these communities.

Brown has worked with Senator Rob Portman to secure funding for the GLRI in the past.
