Planting off to a slow start in eastern IL

An east central Illinois farmer says their planting season has yet to get started.

Kevin Johnson, who’s based in Champaign County, tells Brownfield…

“It is just a tad wet.”  He says, “We have not got anything in the ground.  As we speak, in our neck of the woods, east central Illinois, there has not many tractors been running yet. There’s been a few sprayers, but not many planters or field cultivators running in the fields yet.”

Johnson says he’s not worried…

“Good Lord has always let us put a crop in the ground.”  He says, “I questioned that in ‘19 a little bit. But we did get a crop in the ground. I don’t start worrying until May 1.”

The next weekly crop progress report from the USDA comes out Monday.
