Pork producer says trade dispute is ‘a battle worth fighting’

A pork producer is optimistic about talks to normalize trade with China, but he says he can wait to see what he considers to be the right outcome.

“We’ll hopefully see some positive outcomes of these current talks,” said Jim Howerton, a hog farmer from Chilhowee, Missouri, “but it’s a battle that’s, in my opinion, worth fighting.”

“We would appreciate having good and open trade with [China], but I also understand the intellectual properties that the government’s trying to take care of.”

Howerton raises hogs with his brother, son and nephew.
