Pork producers squeezed by inflation
Pork producers remain under significant inflationary pressure.
Iowa Farm Bureau economist Christopher Pudenz says while feed costs have moderated slightly, other fixed costs are still inflated.
“And those aren’t likely to go down anytime soon, if ever at all.”
He tells Brownfield pork producers are also taking a hit at the retail level.
“Well, as prices have increased at the grocery store they’ve had less money to spend on things like pork. So you have the consumer side of things, consumers are feeling inflation in their wallets.”
And for many in the farming community, Pudenz says inflation squeezes margins from both directions.
