Purdue, Elanco break ground on One Health Research Institute in Indianapolis

Elanco Animal Health and Purdue University have broken ground on a 150,000 square foot facility that will help strengthen the food supply chain.
Elanco’s president and CEO Jeff Simmons says the One Health Research Institute will stand at the center of the state’s One Health Innovation District.
“There will be new innovations or platforms of science that extend across human, plant, animal, and environmental health,” he says. “This will serve as a catalyst inside of a bigger corridor across the state.”
The new planned shared-use facility will include research laboratories, incubators, and collaborative learning spaces. Simmons tells Brownfield, “Our goal here is to create the next era of solutions for farmers to help them ultimately create more value, create more protein, and more product to be more competitive in the long-term.”
Purdue University’s interim president Mitch Daniels says the project is an extension of the land-grant university mission.
“We’re going to be able to offer internships and co-ops,” he says. “These are the types of experiences that enrich education and make it much more likely that Indiana captures them for life.”
The One Health Innovation District, located in Indianapolis, is a collaboration between Purdue University, Elanco, and other industry partners.
Simmons says additional private and public sector partners will help advance the next phase of growth.
