Refurbishing an agricultural icon

The Campbell Soup Company’s, “Help Grow Your Soup” campaign along with members of local FFA Chapters and other volunteers have completed the renovation of the Dull Family Barn in Boone County Indiana and on Sunday, April 18 they celebrated the transformation.Dull Barn Restoration 001

“These kinds of buildings are going to go the way of covered bridges if we don’t take steps to them,” said Tom Dull, of Dull Family Farm. “Because a barn like this really doesn’t have a lot of use in today’s modern agriculture, but it’s an icon of our agricultural history.”

The Dull barn was one of 5 barns selected and the second barn this spring to be renovated as part of the “Help Grow Your Soup” project.

FFA students from 3 local FFA Chapters participated in the barn restoration and Lucy Whitehead, Program Manager for the National FFA Alumni Association says not only does the “Help Grow Your Soup” campaign help educate the non-farm public about where their food comes from, it’s also a great vehicle to showcase FFA members.

“We get to show off what FFA does best and that’s student leadership,” said Whitehead. “And the students have made such an impact here locally, the students really have revived the energy that there is hope in the future of agriculture and we are thrilled about that.”
