Renowned swine vet remembered for legacy

Dr. Bob Morrison

A world-renowned veterinary medicine professor at the University of Minnesota is being remembered for his legacy.

Dr. Bob Morrison was one of three Minnesotans who died in a traffic collision while attending a swine health management conference in the Czech Republic earlier this week.

Minnesota Pork Producers Association executive director David Preisler says he’s known Dr. Morrison for more than 20 years.

“I think really the best thing to say is there’s a number of legacies that he’s left.  One with the students that he’s had over the years.  And the other is the pork producers and veterinarians that he’s worked with through the years.”

Preisler tells Brownfield Dr. Morrison’s latest project exemplified the trust pork producers had in him.

“One of the projects he was probably having the most fun with and working on in this stage of his career was a disease-monitoring and reporting project that was done on a voluntary basis, yet had about half of all the sows in the United States participating in it.”

Various media outlets are reporting Deb Spronk of Pipestone and Pam Wetzell of Cleveland were also killed in the crash, and Morrison’s wife Jeanie remains hospitalized.

Dean of the Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine Dr. Trevor Ames called this a tragic loss for the strong team of students and faculty Bob helped build.

Dr. Morrison was 64 years old.
