Rep. Feenstra discusses farm bill priorities

A US Representative from Iowa is hopeful Congress will turn its attention to the 2023 Farm Bill now that lawmakers have returned from the August recess.

Republican Randy Feenstra says farmers need a sustainable crop insurance program to protect their family operations. “We have a pretty good program right now, but here’s the problem with our crop insurance. We got to not necessarily look at inputs, but also what the margins are. I’d like to look more at that. We do some of that with revenue insurance.”

He tells Brownfield conservation will be another big part of farm bill discussions. “We want to make sure everybody is involved and that we just don’t look forward but look at what our farmers have already done because technically they are the greatest people of the land right now.”

Feenstra spoke to Brownfield at last week’s Farm Progress Show.

  • “We just don’t look forward but … greatest people of the land right now??” Huh? I’m beginning to see why this guy avoids debates.
