Shutdown stopping dairy insurance signup

Dairy farmers who haven’t purchased the new Dairy Revenue Protection insurance option will have to wait until the government shutdown ends to activate policies.

American Farm Bureau Insurance Services says agents can’t add endorsements while USDA dairy price reports are delayed by the shutdown.

About 20 percent of the nation’s milk supply was covered by the new insurance program on December 20th, the last day endorsements could be made.

Implementation of the new Dairy Coverage Program created in the 2018 Farm Bill and potential Dairy Margin Protection Program Payments for the end of 2018 are also on hold during the shutdown.
