Slow week for corn, soybean export inspections

 

The USDA reports corn and soybean export inspections as of the week ending February 22nd remain slower than what’s needed to meet projections for the 2017/18 marketing year. The current marketing year runs through May for wheat and August for beans, corn, and sorghum.

Wheat came out at 280,243 tons, down 143,988 from the week ending February 15th and 263,226 lower than the week ending February 23rd, 2017. Nearly three quarters of the way through the 2017/18 marketing year, wheat inspections are 17,828,384 tons, compared to 18,931,984 tons in 2016/17.

Corn was reported at 1,305,853 tons, 367,754 more than the previous week, but 153,942 less than this time last year. For the marketing year to date, corn inspections are 17,950,458 tons, compared to 25,909,691 a year ago.

Soybeans were pegged at 761,961 tons, 200,089 below the week before, but 53,980 above a year ago. At this point in the marketing year, soybean inspections are 37,775,260 tons, compared to 43,460,044 last year.

Sorghum inspections totaled 59,193 tons. That’s a decrease of 209,221 tons on the week and 74,766 on the year. 2017/18 sorghum inspections are 2,646,938 tons, compared to 3,178,953 in 2016/17.
