Small soybeans, poor pod fill challenge southeast Minnesota farmer
Early soybean yields are not what southeast Minnesota farmer Dan Glessing was expecting.
“So far, beans have been disappointing to say the least.”
The Waverly grower tells Brownfield others in the area are having better results.
“Some of the neighbors have had good results, but I have a field that’s further north and it didn’t receive the rain that we did at home. That’s what we’ve taken so far, and that field was disappointing. The beans were small.”
He says the lack of a late August rain is evident.
“Some of the top pods looked like they had three beans in them (but) you open them up and there’s just one small one in there.”
Glessing serves as president of Minnesota Farm Bureau.
