Tennessee crops: corn 49% and soybeans 28% planted

Warm, dry weather has helped Tennessee farmers make significant planting progress.

Corn is 49 percent planted, running 8 percent behind last year, but ahead of the 5-year average. Eighteen percent of the crop is emerged. Soybeans are 28 percent planted, ahead of last year’s pace and the 5-year average.  Cotton is 5 percent planted, ahead of both last year and the 5-year average.

Winter wheat is 92 percent jointed, and 60 percent headed, with 76 percent of the crop rated good to excellent.

Pastures are 65 percent good to excellent.  Apples are 83 percent blooming and 73 percent of strawberries are rated good to excellent.

Topsoil is 90 percent, and subsoil moisture is 89 percent, adequate to surplus.
