Torres Small says Biden admin is prioritizing trade

The USDA’s Deputy Secretary says the Biden administration continues to pursue emerging ag markets.

“There’s been lots of work to expand markets and it’s something we will continue to do,” said Xochitl Torres Small.

Torres Small tells Brownfield there could be potential in Sub-Saharan Africa and USDA is expected to visit Angola in November. “We’re recognizing that with growing populations in Africa and Angola, for example, there’s an opportunity to strengthen ties and build more value for farmers here at home.”

The U.S. delegation will also hold discussions with the Democratic Republic of the Congo during the trip.

Torres Small spoke to Brownfield at the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture’s annual meeting in Cheyenne, Wyoming on Wednesday.
