U.S. corn, soybean development slows

U.S. corn and soybean development is running behind average.

As of Sunday, 19% of corn is silking, compared to 8% last year and 12% on the five year average, while 23% of soybeans are blooming, compared to 13% a year ago and 20% on average.

Also, 97% of soybeans have emerged, 2% ahead of last year and steady with the five year average.

71% of corn and 66% of soybeans are in good to excellent condition, both down from last week.

54% of winter wheat is harvested, compared to 50% a year ago and 53% on average, with 63% of the crop in good to excellent shape, 1% less than last week.

52% of winter wheat has headed, compared to 28% last year and the five year average of 57%, with 83% of the crop in good to excellent condition, down 1% from a week ago.

65% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent shape, 1% lower than the prior week but 12% higher than a year ago.
