U.S. hearing next week on IARC/glyphosate

The U.S. House Science committee will investigate the International Agency for Research on Cancer in its review of glyphosate. IARC is affiliated with the United Nations’ World Health Organization (WHO). Critics say the agency’s method of evaluating cancer hazards lacks transparency and appears to be flawed.

I-ARC had determined the weed killer glyphosate was “probably” a carcinogen but the U.S. EPA and other agencies say it is not likely to be carcinogenic to humans. I-ARC receives U.S. taxpayer funding and has been under fire for it’s conclusions not only on glyphosate but also red meat, and, other substances. EPA’s senior science advisor of its Pesticide Programs, Dr. Anna Lowit, will be among those testifying next Tuesday.
