U.S. officials head to China to talk trade dispute

U.S. and Chinese officials will meet in China to discuss trade on Thursday and Friday.

During an interview today with Fox Business, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said he is cautiously optimistic that progress will be made at the meeting. He says the countries will discuss intellectual property rights, joint technology, and joint ventures.

“These are issues that President Trump has been focused on for over the last year and hopefully we’ll make significant progress,” he says. “We’re going there to make progress. That’s our objective.”

This meeting comes after both the U.S. and China announced tariffs on 50 billion dollars worth of goods, and Trump proposed an additional 100 billion dollars in tariffs on Chinese goods.

President Trump has said there is a good chance a deal will be made because of the meeting.

But, he says tariffs will be implemented as planned if an agreement isn’t reached.
