USDA announces $170 million for rural communities

Describing it as another examplethat the USDA is an “every day, every way department,” Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced Tuesday, April 21 that rural communities in 34 states will be eligible for loans and grants to help build and upgrade water and wastewater systems.

“Water is anever growing concern in America,” said Vilsack. “The ability to treat water, to be able to have quality, safe drinking water is extraordinarily important to rural communities, and USDA is going to continue to do its work through the Rural Utility Service Fund.”

According to Secretary Vilsack, the $170 million dollars in loans and grants will fund 62 projects in the 34 states.
