USDA will soon pilot rural electric program

 

U.S. Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue says an e- connectivity pilot project is the department’s first step in tackling rural infrastructure improvements.

“Co-ops are now deploying fiber based smart grid to connect electric infrastructure, thanks to Congress passing the omnibus bill funds are available this upcoming year for smart grid to modernize and digitize your rural electric systems.”

Perdue recently told members of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association the $600 million pilot program is still being created at the department but will soon be available.
