Variability best describes Indiana farmer’s harvest

harvest scene

Central Indiana farmer Kyle Jackson says they have about a third of their soybeans harvested and yields have been all over the board.  “Things have been very good to down to less than average,” he says.  We’ve been in the mid-70’s to high 40’s on beans.”

He tells Brownfield they’ve started on a couple of corn fields and yields have been surprising.

But he anticipates that changing.  “We planted our driest fields first and it’s the best drained ground we have,” he says.  “I think as we get further into the corn I think things will drop off dramatically.  I think we’ll have a couple of fields that will be really bad.”

Jackson says they plan on switching over to corn soon because stalks are already showing signs of weakening and he wants to harvest it before the crop ends up on the ground.
