Vietnam lifts suspension of US DDGS imports

Vietnam has lifted its suspension of U.S. DDGs which it put in place late last year because of the presence of a quarantined pest. Lyndsey Erb, industry relations director of the US Grains Council, says it’s good news that Vietnam import permits will be issued once again, “Vietnam was our third largest market for U.S. DDGS exports in the ‘15/’16 marketing year. It was almost ONE-Million tons that year.”

In addition, Vietnam will allow for new fumigation protocols in U.S. corn and wheat for the control of the same pest.

Erb tells Brownfield Vietnam is a very large and important market for DDGS, “From U.S. corn producers that are selling their corn into local ethanol plants. Certainly, the plants, the exporters, the trans-loaders, the entire value chain.”

Erb says this was an issue unique to Vietnam that has now been resolved with the work of many US Grains Council partners.
