White mold found in some northwest Missouri soybeans

A rare soybean disease for Missouri has been found in four fields in the northwest part of the state.

University of Missouri Extension soybean specialist Bill Wiebold tells Brownfield weather factors are suspected in these cases of white mold, “We’ve had probably a little bit of a cooler summer, at least recently. At least in some cases, the fields were planted in narrow rows with heavy population.”

Wiebold says the fungal disase is not to be confused with “southern” white mold. This strain, he says, is more likely in Minnesota and Wisconsin and can be a yield robber.
