Wisconsin corn planting even with last year

Warm, dry weather in Wisconsin last week allowed for corn planting to catch up with last year’s torrid pace.

In its latest crop progress report, the USDA says 91 percent of the expected corn acreage in the state has been planted.

That’s the same as 2015 and almost two weeks ahead of the five-year average.

Soybean planting is slightly behind a year ago, but nine days ahead of normal at 66 percent complete.

And as of Sunday, 98 percent of Wisconsin’s intended oat acres and 95 percent of the potato crop has been planted.
