Two more Wisconsin wolf harvest zones closed

Effective 7 p.m. October 30th, the Wisconsin DNR is closing the wolf hunt in Harvest Zones 1 and 5. Quota for the Zone 1 is 76 and 72 wolves have been reported to-date. Zone 1 covers Douglas, Bayfield, Ashland, most of Iron and Sawyer counties and parts of Price, Rusk and Washburn counties.  The quota for Zone 5 is 34 wolves and 33 have been taken.  Zone 5 covers parts of Eau Claire, Chippewa, Clark, Jackson, Wood, Juneau and Adams Counties.

Half of the state’s six zones are now closed, Zone 2 was closed last week. Dave MacFarland with the DNR cautions hunters other areas are close to quota and suggests hunters “check for closures before heading out.” Closures will be posted on the DNR website, dnr.wi.gov, and on the wolf call-in number, 1-855-299-9653. “Our ultimate goal is to harvest 251 wolves, distributed across the landscape,” says MacFarland.
