Wisconsin’s remaining poultry quarantines lifted

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) Tuesday released all quarantines on premises affected earlier this year by avian influenza.

Remaining quarantines, four in Barron County and two in Jefferson County, are lifted.  State veterinarian Paul McGraw says there’s still a concern the disease may reappear in the fall when temperatures drop and wild birds begin their south migration.  Because of that, he says backyard poultry owners and commercial producers alike should continue to use biosecurity to minimize the possibility of infection.  “We need to stay focused on prevention,” said McGraw, in a statement prepared for a news release.

The Division of Animal Health will have meetings in September to address questions from poultry producers.
