Young Nebraskan is happy to be back on the farm

A young Nebraska farmer says, despite the challenges of a down ag economy, he has no regrets about returning to the family farm ten years ago.

“I made my rounds doing some other jobs and it’s kind of funny how life turns you back around to what really matters most,” says Tyler Ramsey of Kenesaw, Nebraska. “We started having kids and wanted to raise my family the way I was raised.

And there’s another reason he’s happy to be back on farm, he says.

“When I wasn’t on the family farm, I had an outdoor itch that I couldn’t scratch—and I haven’t had that since I’ve been back.”

Ramsey says he’s proud to be a fifth-generation farmer and to keep the family legacy going.

“I have a son and four daughters, and I hope one of them will come back to the farm—you know, keep the future going.”

Tyler and his wife Alysha received the Nebraska Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers and Ranchers Achievement in Agriculture Award earlier this month at the group’s annual convention.
