Zest ‘N Zing raises big bucks for Gleaners
Last night’s Zest ‘N Zing event was a battle between proteins. It was Indiana cattle farmer Ginny Tauer and chef Jason Anderson (“Team Beef”) versus hog farmer Nick Sommers and chef Greg Schiesser (“Team Pork”).
Zest ‘N Zing: A Foodie Event for the At-Home Chef may have been a cooking competition – but ultimately it raised a lot of money for Gleaners Food Bank. In the end, Team Beef was named champion – but the evening’s big winner was Gleaners.
Jennifer Schwent with Gleaners says the event with Indiana Farm Bureau is a unique opportunity to spread awareness about food insecurity. “People are here and enjoying themselves,” she says. “They don’t feel like it is totally a charitable thing. But, we almost raised $5,000 here tonight. That’s a lot of meals to feed the hungry and every dollar goes towards meals.”
The nearly $5,000 raised last night is the equivalent to nearly 20,000 meals for the food insecure.
