America’s Longleaf Restoration Initiative

With more than 20 organizations involved, America’s Longleaf Restoration Initiative is a voluntary effort to bring back the land of the longleaf pine, which at one time covered 90 million acres in the Southeastern United States. Laurie Fenwood is with the U.S. Fish and Wilflife Service and serves as coordinator of America’s Longleaf Restoration Initiative, she tells Brownfield’s Dave Russell the goal is go from the current 3.4 million acres, to 8 million acres in 15 years, and the restoration on private land will be key to reaching the goal.
