NAFB Parliamentarian makes sure rules are followed

At every business meeting of the National Association of Farm Broadcasting (NAFB), in the front of the room, sits a petite, white-haired woman who, for most of the time, says nothing, but Virginia Berberick is a keen observer to see that all business is conducted according to Robert’s Rules of Order. In 2012, I served as president of the NAFB, and despite my less than impressive knowledge of parliamentary procedure, or perhaps because of it, Ms. Berberick and I became friends. I introduced Virginia to NAFB members that year as having her black belt in parliamentary procedure. In Robert’s Rules parlance it means she is a professional registered parliamentarian and she’s very good at what she does. She’s had an interesting career and in this conversation, she tells us why she became interested and what’s important about conducting meetings according to what Roberts prescribed almost 100 years ago.
