Ohio River Tour: We need reliable locks and dams

Reliable locks and dams are vital to the American economy.  The American economy is a huge benefactor from the efficient and effective use of the inland waterways system.

Just how many goods are moved using river transportation?  Approximately 60% of the nation’s grain exports move by barge, 22% of domestic petroleum and petroleum products, and 20% of the coal used in electricity.

In this podcast, Paul Rohde, vice president of the Waterways Council gives an example of the effect that even a small holdup along the river transportation system can have.
