Stallman: ‘hold Congress accountable’
The American Farm Bureau Federation president wants pressure put on Congress to do its work.
In his annual address to members Sunday, Bob Stallman told members to let lawmakers know it’s time to pass overdue legislation important to farmers.
Congress is falling down on the job of addressing the nation’s needs,” said Stallman, in his annual address to American Farm Bureau Federation members gathered in San Antonio, “including your needs as the producers of our nation’s bounty.”
That, said Stallman, includes the farm bill, waterways infrastructure improvements and immigration reform. Farmers and ranchers should urge their lawmakers to act or to replace them if they don’t, he said.
“They work for you. You are the boss,” he reminded. “You promote some, you fire a few, but you must hold all of them accountable.”
More than 6,000 American Farm Bureau members were in attendance at the annual convention.
