Strong future anticipated for dicamba tolerant crops

The weed control industry is scrambling to develop methods to stay ahead of herbicide resistant weeds. The number of states affected by herbicide resistance is growing. Steve Bowe with BASF calls it “a serious problem” and adds that stewardship practices are part of the answer to the issue. Bowe cites another tool; Engenia Herbicide, which is still under development by BASF. Timed for release about the middle of the decade when the dicamba tolerant trait itself is anticipated for release, Bowe says Engenia is flexible and will bring about the previously unheard of; dicamba use over the top of soybeans, cotton and other crops in the future. He says Engenia also brings an additional mode of action to weed control that when rotated with other modes of action, will help keep all of them viable.
