Summit explores activists’ impact on security

This Wednesday, April 28, more than 150 leaders from across the farm and food sectors will gather in Arlington, Virginia for the Animal Agriculture Alliance’s Ninth Annual Stakeholders Summit.

Twenty speakers will delve into the event’s theme, “Truth, Lies, and Videotape: Is Activism Jeopardizing Our Food Security?,” including Former Department of Homeland Security Undersecretary Asa Hutchinson.  Hutchinson’s keynote address will look at the far-reaching implications of activists’ attacks against food production. Presenters will also focus on current events influencing agriculture, proactive animal well-being initiatives, and using new media to reach urban consumers.

“The 2010 Stakeholders Summit will address important and timely issues ranging from food production strategies for the future to winning the hearts and minds of the public,” says  Alliance Executive Vice President Kay Johnson Smith.

The Animal Agriculture Alliance is a broad-based coalition of individual farmers, ranchers, producer organizations, suppliers, packer-processors, private industry scientists, veterinarians and retailers. The Alliance’s mission is to communicate the important role of animal agriculture to our nation’s economy, productivity, vitality and security and that animal well-being is central to producing safe, high-quality, affordable food and other products essential to our daily lives.
