World Dairy Expo underway

The 47th World Dairy Expo this week in Madison, Wisconsin. Janet Keller says the youth competition began on Sunday with the fitting contest.  Each contestant was responsible to bring an unclipped animal to the contest and their own equipment and supplies. They clipped and fit the hair to enhance each animal’s strengths and weaknesses within the time limit. These eager youth clipped and fitted the animals to perfection. Kevin Doebereiner, West Salem, Ohio served as the official judge.

The placings for the Youth Fitting Contest are as follows:

  3. Austin Nauman, Norwalk, Wisconsin
  4. Jon Beiler, Fredericksburg, Pennsylvania
  5. Tyler Endres, Lodi, Wisconsin
  6. Brooks Hendrickson, Belleville, Wisconsin
  7. Brett Hildebrandt, Hustisford, Wisconsin
  8. Briar Jeg, Chehalis, Washington
  9. Sean Brown, Dodgeville, Wisconsin
  10. Jonas Melbomb, Germany

The youth show continues on Monday with 4-H, high school and collegiate FFA members participating. “There will be over 3,100 FFA members on site the opening day of Expo”.

World Dairy Expo itself gets underway on Tuesday with roughly 2,500 dairy cattle from across the U.S. and Canada filling the barns once again along with the world’s largest dairy-specific trade show. There will also be a great selection of educational seminars and virtual farm tours and the various livestock dairy cattle sales.

World Dairy Expo runs through Saturday at the Alliant Energy Center.
