Weather
A wet pattern across the eastern-half of the Nation
A disturbance crossing the north-central U.S. will reach the Mid-Atlantic States by late Saturday, resulting in a band of light snow. Meanwhile, impressive Pacific storminess will arrive in California, starting later Friday. Stormy weather will persist through the weekend and early next week, boosting 5-day precipitation totals to 4 to 10 inches or more in parts of northern and central California, and 2 to 8 inches in the Pacific Northwest. Record-setting warmth will precede the stormy weather, especially across the nation’s mid-section during the weekend. By early next week, however, heavy rain and severe thunderstorms should begin to erupt across the southeastern Plains, mid-South, and western Gulf Coast region. Through Tuesday, rainfall totals of 2 to 5 inches can be expected in the aforementioned regions, with additional heavy rainfall likely occurring during the mid- to late-week period.
Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for near- to above-normal temperatures nationwide, except for cooler-than-normal conditions in the Southwest. Meanwhile, near- to below-normal precipitation across much of the Rockies, Plains, and Southwest will contrast with wetter-than-normal in the Far West, including California, and most of the eastern half of the U.S.
