A pattern shift ahead; much cooler air and rain on-the-move

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of below-normal temperatures from the northern Rockies into the upper Great Lakes region, while warmer-than-normal weather will prevail south of a line from central California to southern Maine.

Meanwhile, near- or above-normal precipitation across most of the country should contrast with drier-than-normal conditions in the Pacific Northwest.
