A very active, moisture-laden pattern nationwide

A complex storm system currently centered near the Texas coast will move northeastward, reaching coastal New England on Friday. A band of wintry weather associated with the storm will occur from west-central Texas to New England, including the southeastern Plains, the middle Mississippi Valley, and the lower Great Lakes region.

Farther south, however, rainfall totals of 2 to 5 inches could spark flooding in parts of the Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic States. Strong to locally severe thunderstorms may accompany the Southeastern downpours.

Meanwhile, showery weather will persist into the weekend from the Pacific Northwest to the northern and central Rockies. By Sunday, however, drier weather will arrive in the Northwest, while portions of California and the Southwest may receive beneficial precipitation.

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of below-normal temperatures along and west of a line from New Mexico to Minnesota, while warmer-than-normal weather will prevail across the South, East, and lower Midwest.
