Weather

Hot weather to expand into the Plains, western Corn Belt; a wetter pattern west of the Divide.

Extreme heat currently affecting the Northwest and Deep South will expand.  Late in the week, triple-digit (100degree) heat will return across portions of the northern and central Plains.

As the nation’s mid-section turns hotter, limited, late-week heat relief will occur in the West.

Meanwhile, significant rainfall will be scarce during the next 5 days.  Most of the rain will fall early in the week in conjunction with a low-pressure system currently traversing the lower Great Lakes region.  That storm system will reach the Atlantic Coast by late Tuesday, after producing as much as 1 to 3 inches of rain across New England and the Northeast.

The storm’s trailing cold front should stall across the lower Southeast, allowing heavy showers (locally 2 to 6 inches or more) to fall from Florida to the coastal Carolinas.

In contrast, dry weather will prevail during the next 5 days from the Pacific Coast to the Plains, aside from scattered, monsoon-related showers in the Four Corners States and environs.
