Midday cash livestock markets

Private sources are reporting a few bids on the cattle in Kansas and Texas at 128.00 on Thursday, but the rest of cattle country is slow to start. A very thin test was reported in parts of Nebraska yesterday at 128.00 to 130.00 live and 205.00 to 210.00 dressed. Packer inquiry could improve over the next several hours. Asking prices are around 132.00 in the South, and 212 to 213.00 in the North.

Choice boxed beef cutout values are .58 lower 250.45, select down .77 at 219.89.

Cattle receipts at the Tama, Iowa Slaughter Cattle Auction totaled 627 head on Wednesday. No comparison to last week as sale was not reported. The trade was active with good demand. Slaughter steers choice 2-4 ranged from 134.00 to 141.75. Holstein steers choice 2-3 from 110.00 to 115.00. Heifers select and choice 2-3 from 130.00 to 136.50.

Springfield, Missouri Livestock Marketing Center received 1,942 feeder cattle on Wednesday. Steer calves were 5.00 to 7.00 lower than last week, yearling steers 3.00 to 5.00 lower, heifers steady to 5.00 lower. Holsteins compared to three weeks ago, under 600 pounds steady to 3.00 higher, over 600 pounds 5.00 to 8.00 higher. Demand and supply was moderate. Feeder steers medium and large 1, calves weighing 676 pounds brought 146.07 per hundredweight. Large 3 dairy steers weighing 871 pounds brought 91.05. Heifer calves averaging 611 pounds brought 137.15.

Sheep receipts at the Sioux Falls, SD Regional Livestock at Worthing totaled 960 head on Wednesday. Slaughter lambs sold steady to 2.00 lower. Slaughter ewes were sharply lower in a much lighter offering than last week. Feeder lambs were steady to firm in a narrow comparison, as lambs were of different weights than the previous sale. There was good demand for slaughter lambs, moderate to good demand for feeder lambs and stock returning to the country. Slaughter lambs wooled and shorn choice and prime 2-3 weighing an average of 124 pounds brought 200.91 per hundredweight. Feeder lambs medium and large 2-3 weighing 58 pounds brought 238.83 per hundredweight.

Barrows and gilts in the Iowa/Minnesota direct trade are not reported due to confidentiality, the West is up 1.46 at 84.80, and nationally the market is 1.05 higher at 83.32 weighted average on a carcass basis. The Missouri direct base carcass meat price is steady to 3.00 higher from 70.00 to 72.00. Midwest hogs on a live basis are steady to 1.00 higher from 52.00 to 56.00.

Pork cutout values are .51 higher at 94.56 FOB plant.

For the week ending June 10, Iowa barrows and gilts averaged 279.4 pounds, 1.8 pounds heavier than last week, and 2.5 pounds smaller than 2016.
