Behind the Scenes

Cow-town visit

I don’t know what it is about farm broadcasters.  They are always looking for an agricultural angle. . .

My husband Bob and I visited Edmond, Oklahoma for my nephew’s 9th birthday and baptism, both on Valentine’s Day. We had a lot of fun and got to experience some of the things that the Oklahoma City area is known for: great steaks at Cattlemen’s Café in “Stockyard City”; Pop’s in Arcadia, on Route 66, which has 500 types of soda pop; and the Round Barn, also in Arcadia. We were told the Shakers from New England started the concept of the round barn so they couldn’t be “cornered by the devil.” Next time, we’ll get a tour of The Oklahoman newspaper where my brother-in-law, Donald, works. And, maybe we’ll see the OKC-based radio network where an award-winning farm broadcaster worked in the early years of her career. Can you guess who that is?
