House approves slaughter ban

On Friday members of Congress approved an amendment on meat inspection that would ban horse slaughter in the U.S. The measure passed 318-63, with the two original sponsors of the bill voting against it. According to the Associated Press, those sponsors, Rep. John Sweeney of New York and Rep. Ed Whitfield of Kentucky, said the final bill was too vague to understand. The two men now say they’ll pursue another bill that more specifically deals with horse slaughter.
